Sleeping raspberry canes.

Why I don't have a gorgeous flower garden.  We also see wild turkeys and once, a moose.  Actually better than a garden!

I rarely use the treadle wheel.  I bought it 2nd hand for the romantic notion of it.  I normally use a Lockerbie kick wheel which I love but a right knee injury 3 months ago, still not healed, means I can't use it.  Therefore the treadle.  Bit of a challenge remembering to keep that left leg going!

Here are a few pots from last weeks firing.  No disasters, no bloating, just a few ash runs.

The temmokus are from the back of the kiln where there is less ash and slightly lower temperature.

The firing went quite smoothly, even with changing the timing of soaks and slow downs.  Fingers crossed for good results.

We're firing tomorrow.  It's the last firing of the year so of course I tried to squeeze everything in, especially the favourite pieces for the show on the 21st.  Very frustrating when many of them didn't fit in.  Fingers crossed for a good one.

A Few Pots From The September Firing

There were fairly heavy losses in this firing.  Too hot, too fast, so lots of ash glaze runs, bloating etc.  Here are a few of the better ones.  I'm trying rattan/cane handles as the solid cane have become so expensive.  This is a first try so I'm not sure about them.  I'm thinking the round reed might look better dyed a warmer brown - maybe next time.

 A friend introduced me to Matcha recently so I've made some bowls for it.

Another Firing

We fired yesterday and all went well.  Good dry wood, clouds instead of a hot, sunny day like the day before.  Hopefully results will be good.  When I was loading the 2nd from the top shelf in stack 3 the posts underneath rotated and there were posts and pots all over the place!  Scary and infuriating.  Posts shattered two of the mugs on the floor and various pots had scuffs in the glaze which I touched up.  I only hope there were no cracks hidden under the glaze.  Unloading is on Wednesday or Thursday.  Fingers crossed.
